Dr. Dickerson grew up in Union City, Tennessee. He completed his graduate studies at The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1982. He then practiced in Greenville and Ripley, Tennessee before joining Dyer County Animal Hospital in 1985. Dr. Dickerson and his wife Elizabeth have a three sons, three daughters-in-law, and a growing litter of gradchildren.

They have three cats, two dogs, and three horses. He and his family are members of the First United Methodist Church of Dyersburg. Dr. Dickerson currently is a member of the TVMA and served on the board in the past. He is also serving on the TVMA State Committee for Peer Review. His hobbies include golfing, water skiing, quail hunting and horseback riding.
